It's no secret that the current business climate is rapidly losing its tolerance for management error while the need for rock-solid accountability is increasing. In the current economy, moreover, the competition for scarce funds is increasing. And, managers at all levels are called on more than ever, to show why the chosen course is the best course—in business terms. As a result, most important business decisions today require a business case.

Everyone talks about the "business case" these days, but surprisingly few know what this really means or what makes the difference between a strong case and a weak case. However, those who do understand essential business case concepts and master case-building skills have a strong advantage over their professional colleagues in all areas of the business—including project management, product management, asset management, finance, strategic planning, and corporate governance.

Participants in Solution Matrix Ltd. business case seminars learn and apply the same structured, practical approach we have taught and helped establish at Airbus, Allianz, BMW, Boeing, Cisco Systems, Ericsson, McDonald's, Microsoft, IBM, Xerox, NASA, NSA, and CARE, as well as government organizations in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Join more than 16,000 professionals who have successfully completed Solution Matrix Ltd. seminars on five continents. Learn and practice the proven approach presented in our best selling books, Business Case Essentials and The Business Case Guide. Please see the seminar agendas below or write for detailed information on seminar contents and agendas

Previous offerings of these seminars were sold out well in advance.  Enrollment is strictly limited to 24 participants for each session.

sem_7.jpgWhat You Will Learn

"Building the Business Case" and the "Master Class" seminars feature "hands on" workshops with real business case examples. Most participants come with little or no prior experience in finance or business planning. During the course they build the benefits rationale, cost model, and financial analysis at the heart of a professional quality business case.

In "Building the Business Case" you will learn in two days:

  • The essential building blocks that every business case must have.
  • Where to find the "proof" that one course of action represents a better business decision than another.
  • What makes the difference between a strong case and a weak case.
  • Important differences between the business case for private industry and the business case for government, military or non profit organizations.
  • How to build credibility as you build your case.
  • How to legitimize and measure the full range of business benefits—even the so-called "intangibles."
  • How to build a financial modeling system for asking "what if'' questions, finding which assumptions drive results, and measuring risk and uncertainty in your projections.
  • How to package and present business case results for maximum impact.

The "Business Case Master Class" (one day) provides additional in-depth practical guidance and hands-on experience in:

  • Building the financial model that "makes the case" supporting project proposals, program proposals, product proposals, or capital acquisition proposals.
  • Estimating costs and benefits realistically and credibly.
  • Implementing important financial metrics in your financial results (including NPV, IRR, Payback Period, and IRR).
  • Good practice, shortcuts and risks in spreadsheet modeling.
  • Using Monte Carlos simulation to ask "What If?" questions, measure risk, and reduce uncertainty in projected business results.
  • Quantitative methods for bringing non financial benefits and costs into the business case.
  • Taking the "soft" out of "soft benefits."

The '"Business Case Master Class" is recommended for people who already have some business case experience, or who have just completed the two-day course '"Building the Business Case."
